Hey everyone,
I’ve been thinking a lot about Alyssa Broderick and her boyfriend, Willie Simmons III, who died alongside Amanda Broderick in such a tragic way. Alyssa was only 17, with her whole life ahead of her, and by all accounts, she was such a bright young woman with an amazing future waiting for her. I can't help but wonder how the system could have failed her so badly.
It’s especially hard knowing that the custody exchange was meant to be a safe moment. It’s chilling to think that something meant to protect her and Amanda ended as it did. They both deserved so much better, and it goes to show how even legal protections like restraining orders, which should be taken seriously by the courts, sometimes aren’t enough when the system doesn’t do its job.
I hope this case brings about much-needed changes and helps to raise awareness about the weaknesses in our current legal system when it comes to domestic violence cases. No family should ever have to endure what the Brodericks and the Simmons have gone through. My thoughts are continuously with their families.
Stay safe, everyone.
Something that’s been on my mind about the Amanda Broderick case is the baffling decision to release Stephen Broderick on bond despite having such severe charges against him. It’s something many of us can't wrap our heads around and it’s frustrating to think how the system seemed to prioritize convenience over the safety of Amanda and Alyssa. With his GPS tracker removed, it’s almost like setting up a ticking time bomb.
Amanda and her family deserved so much more protection, especially after everything they went through. It makes me wonder how many other families are in similar situations, feeling unprotected despite doing everything they're supposed to do, like filing for protective orders. We need a serious revamp to ensure abusers are held accountable and their victims aren’t left vulnerable. It’s just unimaginable the ripple effect this tragedy has on those left behind. Sending all my prayers and thoughts to their family and trying to hold onto the hope that these discussions can lead to real change.
