I’ve been following the case of Virginia Jenn Lillard and her mother Rita, and it just keeps weighing heavy on my mind. One thing that struck me is how Jenni, even in such a terrifying moment, reached out to her parents for help. It's so heartbreaking to think of the courage it must have taken to make that call, hoping for safety and support. It's gut-wrenching to think that what should have been a refuge turned out differently. Rita, being right there for her daughter as any loving mother would, paid the ultimate price. It just emphasizes the unpredictable and escalated risks victims face when trying to navigate away from an abusive partner. I hope that sharing their story raises more awareness about this serious issue. My thoughts are with the Lillard family and all who knew and loved them. I really can’t imagine the immense pain they’re going through. Let’s continue to honor their memory by advocating for better support systems and protective measures for people in similar situations.
