Has anyone here looked into the community's reaction after the tragic loss of Deputy Sheriff John Lamb back in 1900? I can only imagine how devastating it must have been for such a tight-knit area like Sneedville to suddenly lose not only a law enforcement officer but also a husband and father to four boys. It's remarkable that, despite the circumstances surrounding the election disturbance, it seems there wasn't a formal investigation into the incident. This makes me wonder about the norms of the justice system back then and how such events were processed by the community. Did they view it as just an unfortunate tragedy, given the suspect was also killed during the chaos? Also, knowing the suspect died in the same incident, how did the local community come to terms with there being no further legal proceedings? It must have been a heavy chapter for all involved, balancing grief and the need for closure. Anyone have any family stories or historical insights on how the community remembered Deputy Lamb?
