I've been reading up on the tragic circumstances surrounding Ruth McElwaine Tucker and it’s just so unsettling to think about what she went through. One thing that's really stuck with me is how impactful community vigilance can be, especially during that time in history. It was actually a milkman who stumbled upon the scene, which got me thinking about how much of daily life intersected with violent acts back then—and unfortunately still does today in some ways.
Even though it took more than a year to bring Charles Barr to justice, it’s a reminder of how these random acts of violence can leave such a long-lasting ripple through a community. I'm hoping more light can continue to be shed on cases like these, and that we don’t forget the real people involved, like Ruth and Duncan. It's also a testament to those working, even back then, to solve such horrific crimes despite fewer resources. My thoughts are with the families who had to endure this terror for so long without answers.
