I'm always struck by the bravery Zaevion showed on that terrible night. The fact that he sacrificed his own life to protect those two girls really says everything about his character. It’s hard not to think about what kind of future he could have had—a promising athlete and just 15 years old. His loss is such a blow not only to those who loved him, but to the whole community. I recently learned about the efforts his mother is putting into advocating against gun violence, and it’s so inspiring. I admire her strength and commitment to making sure Zaevion's legacy is one of positive change and awareness. It’s gut-wrenching that she lost her son in such a senseless way, but it's moving to see how she's channeling that into trying to prevent other families from suffering similar fates. Seeing these tributes and initiatives like the Change Center helps keep his memory alive and shows his story is much more than just a tragedy—it's a call to action.
