A welfare check at an apartment on 119 Bennett Drive in Clarksville, Tennessee, on the morning of January 7, 2018, resulted in officers finding 23-year-old Tavon Wilson shot multiple times and deceased. The Clarksville Police Department treated the death as a homicide and detectives processed the scene that day.
Detectives with the Special Operations Homicide Unit continued investigating for years. In June 2022 a Montgomery County grand jury returned an indictment and 26-year-old Devante Ladavid Ruffin was arrested on charges including first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, and aggravated burglary. Ruffin was taken into custody while appearing in general sessions court on unrelated charges and booked into the Montgomery County Jail with bond set at $200,000. Authorities said the investigation remained ongoing.
