I can't stop thinking about how the police dispatcher must have felt during that call with Travis. I mean, having to listen to someone who feels like they're a threat to themselves and their loved ones, and trying to talk them down, has to be one of the toughest parts of the job. My heart genuinely goes out to the dispatcher who took that call. I can only hope they’re getting the support they deserve in dealing with this traumatic situation. It also really brings to light how critical mental health support is, not just for first responders who deal with these situations head-on, but for everyone. We often talk about the need for mental health resources in general, but these tragic incidents are a stark reminder of what can happen when someone falls through the cracks. I hope there's more awareness and available help for people experiencing such intense crises.

It's so difficult to process the tragedy that befell the Pitts family. My heart aches especially for young MaKayla, who, at just 13, faced such unimaginable horror. Losing her entire immediate family in that dreadful moment... it just leaves me speechless. Growing up, I had a few friends who were older siblings, and we often talked about how they felt a sense of protectiveness over their younger brothers and sisters. I can only imagine the bond MaKayla must have shared with Riley and the weight she felt on her shoulders in those final moments as an older sister. I hope wherever they are, they've found peace together. I also sincerely hope that the wider community, including those at Bethlehem Baptist Church and Joelton Elementary School, continue to rally around those who are left to pick up the pieces. They must feel a communal void left by both girls and Barbara. Please remember to reach out and support surviving family members and friends during this painful time. It reminds us all how critical it is to watch over our loved ones and advocate for mental health awareness so we might prevent future tragedies.
