Has anyone else been following the case of Nathan Oney, missing in Saint Mary's, Alaska? I’ve been digging into some of the lesser-known details around this incident, particularly the presence of sandbars in the area. I read that the Yukon River is notorious for shifting sandbars—one day they’re in one spot, and the next day they’ve moved due to the current. This seems like a huge challenge for search efforts. I wonder if more precise mapping of the riverbed might have helped in locating Nathan or if there was any tech available back then that could have pinpointed the exact location of the boat's collision with the sandbar. Does anyone know if more recent searches in the area are considering changes in river terrain over the years?
Hey everyone,
Has anyone been following the search efforts for Nathan Oney? I was just thinking about how the Yukon River must be quite challenging to search due to its size and current. The area with the sandbars near Pitka's Point seems particularly tricky. I've read that they've been dragging the water with no success. Does anyone know if there are any plans to try different search methods or if there's been any talk of bringing in outside search specialists or different technology to help out?
Also, just curious if anyone has heard about local community efforts to assist in the search? In these close-knit towns like Saint Mary's, I imagine everyone's really pulling together. If anyone has updates, please share. Keeping Nathan and his family in my thoughts.
Stay safe out there.
Has anyone looked into the local currents in the Yukon River where Nathan Oney went missing? I’ve read that the Yukon can have some pretty unpredictable currents, especially around sandbars. It might help to understand how those currents could have affected the search area. If there are any locals here, it would be great to get some insights. Maybe they shift or change with the weather or time of year? Knowing this might direct search efforts more effectively. It’s frustrating to hear that dragging attempts haven't turned up anything yet. Hopefully, any diversions or changes have been accounted for in the search plans. ?
