In the late summer of 2011, a young man named Nathan Joseph Daniel Oney, aged 22, was with a friend traveling on the Yukon River in Alaska. On September 3, 2011, the boat they were in encountered a submerged sandbar, the impact of which threw Nathan overboard into the river's powerful currents. His friend, who remained in the boat, quickly threw a life jacket towards him, but unfortunately, Nathan was unable to reach the flotation device and was swept away.
