I was reading about Detective Sergeant John T. Grant's case, and something that struck me was the incredible dedication shown by the Erie Police Department during their pursuit of the suspect. It must have been incredibly tense for those 20 officers who surrounded the building, knowing the risk they were facing. While the outcome was tragic, both for the loss of Detective Grant and how the situation ended for the suspect, I’m reminded of the bravery and quick response of his fellow officers and how they might have felt, losing a colleague and a friend in such a devastating way. It’s comforting to know that the department later honored his valor, but it's one of those stories that really makes you think about the daily risks officers have always faced while trying to protect their communities. My thoughts are with Detective Grant's descendants and the Erie community that undoubtedly still honors his memory.
