Has anyone else looked into the life of Detective Ellery Bertram Purnsley? It's so sad to think about what he went through as Chester's first Black police detective, and how his life was cut short in such a senseless act of violence. Given the period and the challenges he likely faced in his career, I can't help but feel an immense sense of respect for his dedication and the barriers he must have overcome to serve his community. It makes his loss even more profound. Does anyone have more details on his career or personal life? His story deserves to be remembered as much as the tragedy that ended it.
