I recently came across some details about the armored vehicle Officer Henry Schaad was in during the York race riots. It's chilling to think about how he was supposed to be safe inside that vehicle, yet tragedy struck when a bullet managed to pierce its armor. It's a stark reminder of the unpredictable and horrific nature of those events. It's difficult to comprehend the fear and chaos that must have unfolded during those days in 1969. My thoughts are with Officer Schaad’s family and colleagues who not only lost a loved one but had to grapple with the aftermath of such a violent period. It just goes to show how vital it is for communities to work towards understanding and healing, as these fractures can lead to tragic losses and long-lasting scars. Does anyone have more insight into how patrols were conducted back then or how the police department has changed since? I'd be interested to learn how past events have shaped their current protocols.
