Hi everyone,
I've been reading up on the 1982 Wilkes-Barre shootings and the more I learn, the more I'm struck by the ripple effect of these kinds of tragedies. Specifically, I can't stop thinking about the community of Heather Highlands mobile home park where some of the later victims were killed. It's hard to imagine how the residents must have felt knowing something so horrific occurred right in their neighborhood. I wonder how long it took for the sense of safety to return, if it ever really did.
For families living there, both at the time and new folks moving in afterwards, it's something that could have lingered heavily. How does a community cope and move forward after such bloodshed? Were there any community initiatives or memorials created to support healing? My heart goes out to those families and all who were affected. Any thoughts or additional info about how Heather Highlands dealt with this would be appreciated.
Thanks for letting me share.
I’ve been revisiting the tragic events of the 1982 Wilkes-Barre shootings, and I can't stop thinking about the impact it must have had on the families involved, especially considering how it happened in their own homes. The fact that George Emil Banks used an AR-15 adds another layer of horror to the situation for me. It's chilling to think about how rapid and devastating that weapon can be, especially in a place where you’re supposed to feel safe. My heart goes out to the families and all the loved ones who had to endure such unimaginable pain and loss. I hope that sharing the stories of Boende Banks and the other victims keeps their memories alive and emphasizes the need for continued discussions on violence prevention. Anyone else have any insight into how communities can better support families after tragedies like this?
