I recently came across a piece of information about the Wilkes-Barre shooting from 1982 that really struck me and reminded me of how much it must have impacted the local community. The part that stuck out to me was how Alice Mazzillo, a victim in this tragedy, was trying to call for help when she was shot. It’s truly haunting to think about her bravery in those final moments, trying to protect her family, especially considering that her young sons Keith and Angelo survived by hiding in a closet.
I can't imagine the courage it took for them to stay quiet and their determination to escape to a neighbor's house after all that horror. This story isn't just about the numbers of lives lost; it's about the real people who were involved and the legacy of pain and resilience they left behind. My heart goes out to the Mazzillo family and everyone in Wilkes-Barre who still lives with the aftermath of that day. If anyone has more on how the community has coped or any memorials in place, I’d love to learn more about how they are honoring the victims' memories.
