I want to talk about the impact that community fear and mistrust can have on unsolved cases like Kalvin Montrell White's. It breaks my heart to think that the fear of retaliation could silence witnesses who might have vital information. It’s a vicious cycle because without people coming forward, justice can't be served, and families are left in a very painful limbo. In cities like Minneapolis, where this isn’t an isolated issue, how do we build a bridge of trust between the community and law enforcement? Until we tackle this head-on, cases like Kalvin’s might remain cold way longer than they should. My thoughts go out to his family—I can’t imagine how difficult it must be for them not to have closure.
