Was reading up on the terribly sad case involving Jean Reider and Charles Hegarty. It’s so hard to grasp how a former employee could commit such an awful act. I'm particularly struck by the small, tight-knit community that had to heal after such a senseless act of violence. Working at a place like McDonald's often feels like being part of a family, and I can't even begin to imagine how their coworkers must have felt coming back to work after such a loss.
How do people even begin to move forward from something like this? It’s chilling to think of how Robert Hughes was young enough to have his whole life ahead of him but chose this dark path. I wonder if there were missed opportunities to help him with his psychological struggles before it escalated to this tragedy. Hugs to anyone who knew Jean and Charles. I hope they’ve found some peace and healing after all these years.
