It's been over a decade since the horrific events at Lorena’s Grocery Store, and I still find my thoughts drifting back to the unimaginable pain the Nunez family suffered that day. As I've followed the case over the years, I've found myself particularly moved by the story of Jessica and Laura. Being in their late teens, the most they should have been worried about were school and their futures—not witnessing the devastating loss of their beloved family. I wonder how they have managed to cope with such trauma. It must take an incredible amount of strength to endure something so painful and continue on with life. My heart goes out to them as they carry on their father’s legacy of kindness and generosity. I do hope they've found some semblance of peace over the years and continued to receive support from the community that held them dear. Also, it really got me thinking about the ripple effect of violence—not just on those directly involved but how an entire community feels the tremors of loss. I often read about senseless crimes like this and can’t help but feel the weight of it all. Hoping for a day when communities don’t have to band together in response to tragedy, but through joyful occasions instead.
