I've been thinking a lot about the impact Hunter's death had on his classmates and school community. It's haunting to imagine being in fifth grade and suddenly losing a friend in such a shocking way. Schools are supposed to be safe havens; when something like this happens, it shatters that illusion. I heard that Hunter's school set up a small memorial area in his honor. I hope it gave his friends a place to grieve and remember him. It also makes me think about the role schools play in helping kids deal with such an unimaginable tragedy. The fact that they brought in grief counselors shows how important it is to address emotional trauma early, especially when kids are involved. My heart goes out to all of them.
