Has anyone else looked into the safety measures around gun handling within police departments? I’m deeply saddened by the loss of Chief Thomas Edward Macri; it seems like such a preventable tragedy. As someone who dedicated so many years to keeping others safe, it’s heartbreaking to think an accident like this could happen to him. I know firearms were a significant part of his job, but it makes me wonder if there should be more stringent protocols for officers when handling weapons off-duty, especially at home. Are there standard practices in place for this kind of thing, or can departments do more? My thoughts go out to his loved ones and the entire Bessemer community during this difficult time.
