Has anyone else been following the disturbing details of Kasandra Ortiz's case? I've been thinking a lot about the standoff with the police that occurred after Jose Colon killed her. It's chilling how he was able to hold his roommate hostage and fire multiple rounds at officers. The bravery of the police and the SERT team in those intense hours is commendable, but also highlights the terrifying reality they faced. I can't imagine what Kasandra's family went through during that time, knowing the person responsible for taking her life was armed and dangerous. It’s hard to wrap my head around how drugs can lead someone to such a dark place. My heart goes out to Kasandra’s loved ones as they continue to cope with her loss. Let's hope the attention this case has brought can help spark more discussions on addressing drug addiction and its impacts on our community.
I’ve been following the case of Kasandra Ortiz, and I can't stop thinking about the kids she left behind.
