If there was no missing person report filed until 47 years later I would take a very close look at the wife. Why didn't she report him missing?

Has anyone else found it unusual that there was no missing person report filed for Charles Edward Mansker Jr. until 2015? It's odd that someone can vanish like that without law enforcement being officially notified for so many years. It seems like such a significant oversight, especially considering how crucial those first moments and days are in any missing person case. I can't help but wonder what kind of impact this delay had on the search and investigation efforts.
