I came across Gordon Mason's case while digging through some old missing persons reports, and something that caught my attention was the lack of digital footprint. I know, it's a 1980 case, so it’s a given, but it’s interesting how it changes the dynamics of these investigations. Nowadays, so much can be pieced together from social media, emails, phone records, etc. Back then, it must have been so daunting for investigators to piece together someone's life from just physical records and accounts from family and friends. I wonder if not having more personal data available has impacted the ability to solve his case. What do you all think? How would a case from the early '80s be different if it happened today? Would more digital traces have helped?
I was digging through some old news archives and came across a mention of a halfway house not too far from where Gordon Mason lived in 1980. It got me thinking. I know sometimes going off the grid involves staying at such places, either intentionally or sometimes due to memory issues or other factors. Considering there were no solid leads or evidence in his case, I wonder if anyone ever looked into whether he could have ended up at a facility like that, or maybe a similar place? It might be a long shot, but sometimes the answers lie in the most unexpected places. Anyone else with thoughts on this angle? I'd be interested in hearing what others think!
I’ve been reading up on Gordon Mason’s case, and one thing that really stands out to me is the lack of any leads despite all these years. It makes me wonder if he might have had plans that nobody knew about. Could there have been someone outside his usual circle involved? It seems like he just vanished into thin air. I know it's been over four decades, but it's haunting that the San Francisco area has so many unsolved cases like this. Maybe it’s time for a fresh set of eyes on the files or some modern forensic technique that wasn’t available back then. Anyone else have thoughts on what might have happened or other similar cases from that time?
