Has anyone else been following the awful case of Demarao Alexander Gumby Jr.? What's been on my mind lately is how often these innocent young lives are interrupted by such senseless violence. Demarao had his whole life ahead of him—he was just starting to shape his dreams, like joining the high school football team. Can you imagine the pride and excitement he'd feel telling his friends and family he made the team? Instead, he became another tragic statistic, and it just makes you pause and think about the world we're living in. The lack of control and safety, especially for kids just visiting family like Demarao was, is so concerning. It's infuriating that such a promising life was cut short due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I hope the authorities get leads soon so there's some measure of justice. Seeing the community rally around his family with the GoFundMe campaigns shows there's still some good, but I can’t help but wish it could've been for a celebration of his achievements rather than to cover such a tragic loss. Such a sad outcome, and my heart goes out to his family.
