It's such a sobering thought to reflect on the bravery of Patrolman John Leslie McDonald. The fact that he had only been with the Steubenville Police Department for a few months before his untimely death is really so tragic. It makes you wonder about his life outside of the uniform—his family, friends, and even the dreams he may have had. Steubenville must have been such a close-knit community back then, and to lose someone so dedicated during what was supposed to be a festive time must have rippled through the city. It's also a reminder of how dangerous these roles are, and the immense courage required to perform them day in and day out. My heart goes out to his descendants and the community members who still honor his sacrifice. How do we adequately honor and remember those like McDonald who, despite serving for such a short time, made such a significant impact?
