Has anyone else been looking into the mental health care situation back in 1908? It seems like Rosso Levato was clearly struggling, and I can’t help but wonder if things might have been different if there were more mental health resources available then. I’ve read that Levato had recently been hospitalized, but it sounds like he didn’t get the help he really needed. It breaks my heart to think that his untreated mental illness not only led to this tragic incident but also escalated to the point where it cost Patrolman Peterson his life. It’s really sad to think about the impact this must have had on Peterson’s family, especially his three sons who lost their dad in such a devastating way. Just trying to piece together what might have been done differently if things like this happened today and hoping we can learn from past mistakes. If anyone has more info on early 20th-century mental health care or stories like this, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
