Coming across Terrell Roland’s case has been truly overwhelming, especially when considering the profound loss his family must be feeling. I’ve been thinking a lot about the phrase “Reg shot me,” which Terrell managed to say to his mother. It’s haunting and incredibly brave that he was able to communicate that in his final moments. What strikes me is the strength of Carol Roland, Terrell’s mother, who had to hear those words. It's hard to imagine the pain of witnessing your child in such a condition and then having to face the legal battle that followed. The fact that Reginald Everson was out on bond for another violent crime when he took Terrell’s life shows how the justice system didn’t prevent this tragedy. Terrell’s life was full of potential, and it's a sobering reminder that more needs to be done to protect our communities from these repeated offenders. Let’s hope Terrell’s story continues to shed light on the changes needed to prevent future tragedies.
