I can't stop thinking about Matthew Dugan and his family. I was just reading over some details again, and it really hit me how senseless the whole thing was. He was just doing his job, working a late shift like so many people do to make ends meet. It's chilling to think about how quickly everything happened and how his life was taken for a few dollars and phone cards. I can't imagine the pain his loved ones have been through since that night. It's awful that people continued to come and go from the station, not knowing what had happened to him. I feel for the customer who finally found him and had to make that call. That's something that stays with you forever. With Belton still trying to challenge his sentence, it reminds me of how complex the justice system can be. No matter the legal twists and turns, I think it's crucial that we remember Matthew as more than just a victim. He was someone's son, friend, and perhaps brother or uncle. My heart goes out to his family, hoping they have found some peace as justice has pursued its course.
