I’ve been thinking a lot about the role of security at Club Ritz during the tragic incident involving Dexter M. Burroughs. It’s so distressing to hear that there were metal detectors being used, yet somehow the shooter managed to get back inside with a firearm. For a place that had around 700 people present, it’s unsettling to realize how something like this could slip through the cracks. My heart really goes out to Dexter’s friends and family as they seek justice and answers. It also makes me wonder about the effectiveness of security staff training in these venues. Are the guards empowered and trained adequately to handle escalating situations and use the equipment properly? I feel like there needs to be a standardized national protocol or perhaps more substantial training for security personnel. This case also underlines the necessity for consistent enforcement when it comes to club security measures. I hope the Cincinnati Police Department gets the crucial information they need soon. Keeping this conversation alive might help bring the justice Dexter’s family deserves and perhaps push for meaningful change to prevent another tragedy like this from happening.
