Has anyone else been thinking about the role of parents and guardians in situations like the one involving Shaquez Brunner? It just breaks my heart thinking about how avoidable this tragedy was. I can’t imagine the guilt and pain many families must feel knowing that something more could have been done to prevent access to a firearm. It's not just on the kids who make the mistake but also on us as adults. We really need to consider what kind of environment we're creating at home and how securely firearms are stored, if they absolutely must be there. To think about what both families are going through is almost unbearable. It's a stark reminder of the importance of firearm safety and the conversations we need to have with our kids about it. My thoughts go out to Shaquez’s family who should never have had to endure this loss and also to Jakairion’s family, who must be dealing with their own pain and regret. It’s a tragedy for two families and a community that should never have happened. How do we as a community make sure something like this is never repeated?
