Hey everyone, I’ve been following the case of Phillip Banks, the young man who was tragically killed during the "Stop the Violence" rally in Sims Park Beach, and I just can’t stop thinking about the timing of it all. It’s such an awful irony that an event meant to promote peace and safety was disrupted by such a violent act. It makes me wonder about community gatherings in general and how we can ensure they stay safe spaces for everyone. The way the police quickly arrested two suspects is definitely a step in the right direction, but it must be so hard for Phillip’s family and friends to see something meant to promote positive change end this way. I really hope the community continues to come together after this and doesn’t lose hope. If we keep talking and supporting these initiatives, maybe we can prevent more tragedies in the future. Anyone else have thoughts on how communities can better protect events like these? My heart truly goes out to Phillip’s family and loved ones during this painful time. Stay safe, everyone.
