It's hard to wrap my mind around how senseless this tragedy was. I keep coming back to Sherri Mendenhall, who was just looking out for her neighbor and friend, and ended up being another victim. It's such a selfless act to go toward danger when most of us would probably hide. From what I've read, Sherri had a kind heart and would do anything for those around her—it just shows the type of person she was. It's a painful reminder of how quickly life can change—that a random moment of kindness can unexpectedly put someone in harm's way. My thoughts go out to the families of both Sherri and Skip as they try to navigate such a profound loss. Yellow Springs seems like a tight community, and I hope they find some peace and strength in one another.
