I’ve been thinking a lot about the lasting impact Damon Jenkins had on the Columbus community, and it's really amazing to see how many lives he touched. Being a barber might seem ordinary to some, but Damon really turned it into an art form that built bonds within the neighborhood. His Totally Different Barber Spa wasn’t just a barbershop; it was a safe space where folks came together to share stories, laughs, and sometimes, even their hardships. What hits me most is how Damon managed to foster a sense of camaraderie among his clients. I remember hearing stories about how he would go out of his way to give back, be it by offering free haircuts to kids starting the school year or organizing community events to bring everyone together. It’s such a bitter pill to swallow knowing that his life was taken in a place he worked so hard to create a positive vibe for everyone. Reflecting on his life, it's crucial that we also take a hard look at the landlord-tenant dynamics that were part of this tragedy. Did anyone else in the community see the signs that things were escalating between him and Lamar Reynolds? It’s these questions that linger and remind us of the need for open and honest communication in all our dealings. Thoughts and prayers go out to Damon’s family and friends. I hope justice brings some peace, but it never replaces the unique light he brought to everyone around him. Let’s honor his memory by continuing to support and uplift our community, just like he did.
