I’ve been reading through the details of Darnez Canion’s tragic death, and one thing that keeps coming to mind is the location where it all happened—right near Milkovich Middle School. I can't stop thinking about the kids who attend that school and how this senseless act of violence impacts them. Schools should be places of safety and learning, not reminders of such a tragic incident.
It’s so important that we talk to our kids about violence and the serious consequences it can have. I can’t imagine how the families in the neighborhood are coping, knowing this happened so close to where their children go every day. Sending thoughts and strength to Darnez’s family and all those affected within the community. I hope that with ongoing investigations and community discussions, we can find ways to prevent such tragedies in the future.
I was thinking today about the impact the violence at Milkovich Middle School had on the local community back in 2018, especially the families who lived nearby. Must have been terrifying for parents to hear about such a dangerous situation so close to where their kids go to school. I can't imagine the fear and anxiety that must have rippled through those families. Those traumatic events can leave lasting scars, and for many, it might take a long time to feel secure again in their own neighborhoods. It’s just another reminder of how wide-reaching the effects of violence can be and how important it is to support one another and our communities. Hopefully, more conversations around safety will happen so future tragedies can be prevented. Sending thoughts to everyone affected by this, especially Darnez’s friends and family.
