I came across the case of Shauna Gardner recently, and it's been weighing on my mind ever since. What's particularly troubling is how many people in the Avondale area speak about gunshots being almost a nightly occurrence. It just feels so wrong that something so violent and devastating can become a part of the daily background in any community.
I've read a bit about local efforts to address gun violence, but it seems like there's a long way to go. Shauna was a mother, a sister, someone who should've been safe in her own home. I can't help but think about her kids and how their lives have been forever changed.
Has anyone heard of any community initiatives that might help tackle the root causes of this violence? It's clear that something needs to change, and maybe part of that solution comes from us being more proactive. Would love to hear thoughts from locals or anyone with insight on what might make a real difference.
