I’ve been following the Melvin Wayne Peters case, and I find myself thinking about the role of mental health issues in family violence. Donnell Lawson’s act of shooting his uncle Melvin is so deeply shocking. I can’t begin to imagine the trauma and pain the family must be going through. Does anyone know if there were signs of tension or mental health struggles leading up to this tragic event? It just seems like such a senseless act, and I wonder if anything could have been done differently to prevent this. My heart goes out to both sides of the family. It's hard to grasp how someone could be driven to hurt their own relative.
