I’ve been thinking a lot about LaToya Renee Carpenter's case, and I can’t get over the fact that this all happened in the middle of a vigil for another tragedy. It’s devastating how violence can continue in places meant for remembrance and healing. It just makes you question what we're doing as a society when even moments of grief aren’t safe from harm.
What breaks my heart is the impact on the children present during the shooting, especially LaToya's daughter who was expecting her mom to pick her up that day. I can only imagine how this might have affected her and the others, especially that 12-year-old who was injured. These kids shouldn’t have to carry these memories with them.
I hope the Franklin County authorities can find some lead. It's frustrating that the case has gone cold, but we can’t give up on bringing justice to LaToya’s family. If anyone knows anything, even the smallest detail, it could make a difference. Hoping for brighter days where communities are safe enough to grieve and remember in peace.
