I came across the story of Deputy William Kress Horne, and I can't help but feel an immense sense of loss for his family and colleagues. It's so unsettling to think about how an officer responding to a routine call could end in such tragedy. Imagine the bravery it takes to step out of your vehicle, ready to mediate a conflict not knowing what might happen next. He was just doing his job, trying to keep the peace. Knowing the suspect had such a violent past is chilling enough, but the fact that he was given another chance only to cause more harm makes it even harder to grasp. Deputy Horne was only 24, with a whole life ahead of him, a family counting on him to return home safely after his shift. I'm sure the community felt safer knowing he was out there every day. Heartfelt condolences to those who knew him. His sacrifice is a reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face daily. It seems like his memory continues to be honored, but I wish his loved ones never had to endure this loss.
