I've been reading about the tragic events of July 17, 1988, and my heart goes out to Tom Nicholson's family. The pain they must have felt, not just from losing Tom, but from the way the case unfolded, is unimaginable. I can't stop thinking about how the legal system decided on the insanity plea and the ongoing impact that's had over the years. Michael Hayes' yearly petitions for release must be so incredibly difficult for the families, reopening old wounds time and again. Does anyone else feel like the system didn't quite serve justice in this case? It’s frustrating to see how mental health issues intersect with crime, and it raises such complex questions about how these situations should be handled. My thoughts are with everyone affected.
