I just came across the story about Corporal Robert Howard Hinson, and I'm honestly struck by the senseless nature of this crime. It's so upsetting to think that a dedicated officer, who had already served in the Vietnam War, could survive such intense danger abroad only to be taken from his family in such a cruel way back home. I can't even begin to fathom the anguish his family and colleagues must have felt, nor the courage it took for him to respond to a call that ended in such tragedy. The fact that his life was lost due to some twisted "initiation" just adds another layer of tragedy to this case. I'm glad to see discussions around better protecting our officers, but it also serves as a haunting reminder of the risks they face every day. Keeping the Hinson family and his fellow officers in my thoughts today.
