I’ve been following Catherine McCutcheon’s case and wanted to talk about the overwhelming community response, especially from her colleagues at Roanoke-Chowan Community College. It’s a testament to Catherine’s impact that her fellow staff and students have rallied together. The college planning a memorial service and contemplating a scholarship fund for her daughter shows just how deeply Catherine touched the lives of those around her. I think it’s really crucial that RCCC is also discussing the possibility of a domestic violence institute on campus. It could be a powerful step in educating people and preventing future tragedies like this one. If anyone has thoughts on how these kinds of initiatives have helped other communities, I’d love to hear. Sending all my love and support to Catherine’s family and friends. No one should have to go through such a devastating experience.

It's truly devastating to learn about what Catherine McCutcheon's family endured, especially their young daughter. I can't even begin to comprehend the trauma she must be processing. One element that stood out to me was the involvement of Catherine's uncle. I can't imagine how terrifying it must have been for him to witness such a horrific act, powerless and in shock, yet he managed to call for help. The strength and composure required at such a moment are beyond what most of us could muster. I hope the ongoing support from the community helps him and Catherine's daughter as they navigate this painful journey. It's a powerful reminder of how deeply domestic violence affects not just the immediate victims but those around them as well. Thinking of her daughter, I hope she receives all the love and support she needs to heal and find some semblance of normalcy in a world that’s been so cruelly disrupted. RCCC's move to potentially create a domestic violence institute is a meaningful step. Educating people and preventing future tragedies is such a vital cause, and honoring Catherine in this way could bring about real change and awareness.
