I've been reflecting on the legacy that Dick Trickle left behind, especially in the world of short-track racing. It's truly touching to see how many lives he impacted throughout his career, not just as an incredible driver but also as a mentor and friend to so many. His peers often spoke of how approachable and generous he was, always willing to share advice and a kind word. It's a stark reminder of how sometimes those who give so much to others can be quietly struggling themselves. My thoughts go out to his family and friends who undoubtedly felt his warmth and support throughout the years. Racing lost a great man that day, but his spirit will always be a part of the track.
Did anyone else hear about the voicemail Richard Trickle reportedly left on the Sheriff's office phone before his death? I read somewhere that he called them to let them know they'd find a dead body at the cemetery. That level of planning and forethought just breaks my heart. It’s almost like he wanted to make sure someone would find him quickly, maybe so his family wouldn’t have to go through even more trauma. It's just so incredibly sad to think that he felt this was his only option. My thoughts really go out to his family and friends. It’s clear he was loved and respected by so many in and out of the racing community.
