I’ve been following the case of Jusmar Isiah Gonzaga-Garcia and the others, and while it’s a relief that justice was served with the convictions, I can’t stop thinking about how the community around Tryon Hills must have felt back then. The fear and uncertainty after something so tragic happens right in your neighborhood must’ve been overwhelming. It’s not something that just vanishes once an arrest is made. How do you all think communities heal from tragedies like this? There’s so much unresolved trauma that never makes the headlines.
Anyone local to Charlotte remember any community events or vigils that took place? It would be interesting to hear how residents came together to support one another during such a difficult time. Sending thoughts to everyone still affected by this tragedy.
