I recently read about the tragic case of Amer Mahmood, who was senselessly murdered during a robbery at Joy Food Mart in Durham. Something that really stood out to me was the incredible courage it must have taken for him to comply with the robber's demands, all in hopes of making it home to his family. It's absolutely devastating to think he was still targeted even after following orders. It just doesn’t make sense and makes you wonder about the kind of world we're living in. I can't even begin to imagine the pain his wife and children must be experiencing, especially being so far away in Arizona and unable to be at the vigil. It serves as a harsh reminder of the ripple effects of violence, touching not just direct victims but their families and entire communities. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy, and I hope it opens up more conversations about making our communities safer.
