I’ve been thinking a lot about how Waltrez Allen’s case fits into the bigger picture of Detroit back in the early 2010s. It’s so difficult to wrap my head around the idea that during times of economic crises, people were not just struggling financially but also living in fear due to the violence. Waltrez’s death is a painful reminder of that period. What stands out to me is the immense impact these tragedies have on families and communities, knowing that the loss of a loved one won't ever fade. It seems like the system failed families like the Allens back then. I can't help but wonder, do any of these cold cases see progress years later, especially when they've gone without closure for so long? It's incredibly important that locals continue to step forward if they know anything, but I get that it's complicated due to fear of retaliation or distrust in the system. Does anyone have insights on how things have changed in Detroit since then, especially in solving cases like this?
