I've been thinking a lot about the park where Demond Batts was killed. It's so tragic that a place named after Martin Luther King Jr., a symbol of peace and equality, was the scene of such violence. It feels like a betrayal of everything that Dr. King stood for. I can’t even begin to imagine how his family and friends must feel every time they pass by there. It makes me wonder about the steps our city can take to reclaim these spaces as sanctuaries rather than scenes of tragedy. Is there anything the community can do to honor Demond's memory and promote peace in such spots? Perhaps a community outreach event or a vigil to bring people together and address the root issues that led to this senseless act. It's tough to face these questions, but for Demond's sake, I hope we can find a way forward.

I’ve been following the case of Demond Rasshun Batts, and something that stands out to me is the location of this tragic event. Martin Luther King Jr. Park is supposed to be a place of community and peace, where families and friends gather—a space to honor the legacy of MLK himself. Yet, it was the scene of something so awful. It’s so disheartening knowing that a place meant for unity and reflection became associated with such a violent act. I really feel for Demond's loved ones who now have this reminder etched into a space that should have been safe and welcoming. It makes me think about how communities everywhere need to hold onto spaces like these and protect them so they remain places of positivity and not overshadowed by violence. If anyone locally has thoughts on how to ensure parks and community areas can be better protected or made safer, I'd love to hear them. Preserving the safety and peace of these places is imperative for honoring memories like Demond’s.
