I've been thinking a lot about the role dementia might have played in Bernice's tragic death. It's such a delicate situation, especially considering that Samuel had been suffering from this condition for several years. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it must have been for their family to see his mental state deteriorate over time. While there's no excusing what happened, his illness might have clouded his judgment to a heartbreaking extent. It seems like there's so much to unpack here — the intersection of mental health, age, and the legal system. I keep wondering how things could have been different if he'd had more support or resources. My heart goes out to their daughter, Cheryl, and the rest of the family who have to navigate this incredibly painful time. Dementia is such a cruel disease, and I wish there were more awareness and support systems in place to prevent situations like this.
