Joshua David Lindauer, 33, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, was shot and killed on March 7, 2017. Known as Sarge, he was born May 4, 1983, in Baltimore City and was the son of Brian David Lindauer and Vicki Layne Hendrickson Rappa.
According to witness testimony, an argument between Joshua and Shawn Sturdivant escalated when Sturdivant produced a .22 revolver and pointed it at Joshua’s forehead. Joshua reportedly tried to de-escalate by suggesting they fight like men, but Sturdivant fired at Joshua’s face, killing him instantly. Witnesses named include Lysander Burnette and Aaron Rosenbaum.
After the shooting, Sturdivant left the scene and took steps that witnesses say were attempts to conceal his involvement, including burning his shirt and asking others about removing gunshot residue. He also told police he had not shot or argued with Joshua. Sturdivant was charged with first-degree murder and related weapons offenses; a jury convicted him and he received life without parole for the murder plus additional time for firearm possession.
If anyone knew Joshua or saw what happened that day, please share any information that could add clarity to the events.
