I've been following Heather Carter's case for years now, and I can't stop thinking about the plea deal that Proffitt accepted. On one hand, I'm relieved that Heather's family finally got some answers and were able to lay her to rest. It must have been incredibly difficult not knowing where she was all that time. But on the other hand, the sentence Proffitt got seems so lenient for all the pain and suffering he caused. I understand why the deal was made, especially with the challenges of prosecuting without a body, but it leaves me with mixed feelings. I just hope Heather's family can find some peace in knowing that Proffitt is behind bars and that they finally have her remains. Does anyone else think the justice system should handle these plea deals differently, especially in such tragic cases like Heather's?
