I’ve been following the case of Alicia Lewis, and I can’t stop thinking about how it all happened during such a terrifying time with Hurricane Florence hitting the area. Imagine the bravery it must have taken for the responders from the Carteret County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina Army National Guard to navigate not only the emotional turmoil of such a tragic scene but also the dangerous weather conditions. It feels overwhelming to think of how layered and complex that situation was. I really feel for Alicia’s family and friends, especially her brother Delmas and his wife Cathy. The devastation they must be experiencing, losing Alicia in such a traumatic way, is unimaginable. Coping with the loss of someone you love is hard enough without the chaos and destruction from a hurricane. It's also just so heartbreaking to think of all the animals she cared for and loved. I hope they found safe homes after the tragedy. Sending strength to everyone touched by this loss.
