I've been following Naisha McMillian's case and one part that I keep coming back to is the fact that her own mother, Matrona, didn't hear the gunshots. It's so haunting to think about how close they were to one another at that moment. I can't even imagine the pain of losing a child in such a violent way. The trauma of this incident must feel like an endless nightmare for Matrona and the rest of Naisha's family. My heart goes out to them. I've been reading up on the community's response, and it's heartening to see how people have rallied together. The vigils and adding Naisha’s name to the quilt are beautiful tributes, but they also remind us of how many lives are affected by violence. It's a stark wake-up call for Durham and, frankly, for communities everywhere. These tragedies feel so senseless, and I hope the focus shifts to preventing future losses like Naisha’s. Keeping her family in my thoughts and hoping for justice. ?
